Times Flies When You’re Having Fun

Hey Craft Beer Fans,

So guess what, this blog has been inactive for far too long. Since our book launch at the Firestone Invitational in MAY a LOT has happened. And I mean, a lot a lot. I’ve gone to beer event after beer event, met some wacky, crazy, amazing fellow beer drinkers, and we’ve made great strides with the success of the book. But the concept of California BrewMasters is not one that will live in the rear view just because the book is out. No, my dear friends, there is just so much more to talk about, so much more to do… so much new beer to drink and breweries to try. Dammit we have hands to shake and babies to kiss! So from now on look for this to be a little more active, I’ll just talk about whatever suits my fancy. Stay tuned for a post on GABF which ran in a great LA Beer blog, Beers In Paradise. I’ll be reposting it here but take a look if you’re THAT impatient.

GABF, A Photo Perspective: http://www.beersinparadise.com/?p=19421

Much more to come, new content on the way. Love you all much.

Nick

Book Release Is Set, Join Us at Firstone Walker May 31st

One of my favorite beer festivals of the year is coming up, the Firestone Walker Invitational Beer Festival, in Paso Robles on May 31st. Now tickets may be sold out, but there’s always plenty on sale on StubHub, Craiglist, or through friends of friends of friends. However you get there, the important thing is to GET THERE! Sample amazing beers from over 40 breweries, and get some delicious grub from over 20 local restaurants.

This year, this event is going to be super special. We’ll be officially releasing, for the very first time, the California BrewMasters book. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have this be the venue for our release. This festival shares the values of the book, a focus on the beer community as a whole, as opposed to just the beer. Now the beer’s going to be amazing, don’t get me wrong, but what makes this fest so good is that the brewers are there pouring their beers, giving fans a rare opportunity to meet many of these guys and gals.

For me, this festival it near and dear to my heart; it sparked the idea for this very book! It was there that I met many of the brewers that you’ll find in the pages of California BrewMasters. At last year’s festival we also had a gallery of brewer portraits hanging up, so brewers and beer fans alike could comb over them and take a break from the heat.

I’m honored to have the opportunity to share this book with festival goers, and I hope to see you all there!Vg3bfZxAx9mK3hsL3PLR-BnDUb2UpFrRhn3YgCTY4gthX3vQ48Jg_CcwIl5a_ED2rWAsDWTiVFExLYWjrgCYfatePTPSzDNSbemDAZ3XJGFEik1arwS0U_q4HTF6aQsq2edhXtoiSolieVANrmFsug-Ucp2RCjnvgttqjw=s0-d-e1-ft

Cheers for a Book Update!

Hello Craft Beer Fans,

It’s been far too long since we’ve spoken. How are you? Have you tried these new sessionable IPAs yet? I mean, wow… right? Okay, so down to business, because we could be sitting here yammering about whether or not Go To is better than Easy Jack for hours. We have a book! Did you know that? There’s just so much to cover, I’m bursting at the seems to get it all out to you guys. First off – I haven’t written this on this blog yet, but in case you didn’t know, we got funded on Kickstarter!!!! A huge thank you to the 197 backers of our project, and all the help from friends, family, and craft beer fans everywhere that have helped support this project. Huge props to many industry friends as well for their invaluable support. We had killer events at Urge Gastropub, Tiger!Tiger!, Toronado SD, City Beer Store SF, Anthill Pub in Irvine, AleSmith, The Side Door in Corona del Mar, and the Rookery in Pomona, all supporting this book. I’m honored to have raised over $26K through Kickstarter, what a great amazing thing you guys all helped achieve. If you haven’t seen yet, check out our Thank You page for a big thanks to all the donors.

So you haven’t heard from me since then, and that is for a very good reason, I assure you. We made the book! As of today pages were sent off to the printer. In just a few short weeks, I will have beautiful 196 pg hard cover coffee table books to share with you all. Have a peak inside!   CA_BM_Final_CoverScreen Shot 2014-04-29 at 4.03.13 PM

So there’s just a few pages of this awesome book, there’s so much more to share and see. And the best part: You can pre-order your copy today!   So, we’ve been busy. And there’s a lot to share… and more cool surprises on the way! If you did donate to our Kickstarter, you will be receiving all the cool stuff you ordered come June, when we can package books and t-shirts, growlers, key chains, etc… out to you at the same time. We figure that’s the best way to keep track of it all. Thanks everyone for their support, and I’m so looking forward to premiering this book and sharing the awesome stories of these California BrewMasters with you all.

Cheers,

Nick

Updated Cover! 7 Days Left!

There’s a lot going on in the last week of our Kickstarter  and I’m excited to share all these updates with you. We’re adding a couple more brewers to complete a list of 45 breweries up and down the coast, we think you’ll be pleased with the new additions! Three Weaver’s Alex Nowell (formally in the book with Drakes), Societe’s Travis Smith and Doug Constantiner, and Tom Nickel from Nickle Beer Co. This rounds out our list of brewers, there are a ton of brewers we would love to continue adding, hopefully we get a chance to interview and photograph more in the future!

Next, we want to share our updated cover. After some thought we figured that a cover like this spoke to the project a little more than any one single image could. These brewers all have stories to tell, and we want you to meet them all through our imagery and in-depth profiles. I love it – and I hope you guys do too.

20 Days Left!

Hello Craft Beer Fans,

There are only 10 days left in our Kickstarter campaign! Thanks to everyone that has already donated, but for those procrastinators out there: the time to donate is now!  Do so HERE.

We have a couple more great events coming up that we hope you can make it to. The first is TONIGHT, at Anthill Pub on UCI’s campus. Will be an awesome event with a lot of craft beer fans in attendance due to a Pliny the Younger release. If you can’t get your hands on Pliny, there will be a big list of other amazing beers on tap – and a portion of the proceeds will be going towards the Kickstarter campaign, so come thirsty!

The last event we’ll be having is at one of my favorite SD breweries, AleSmith! This coming Thurs, March 13th, from 5-8pm, come hang out with us as we have a last final event! Food trucks, specialty beers, all will be flowing. Peter Zien will even be on hand to say hello and answer questions. Open to the public, so bring lots of friends!

Lastly, I wanted to reiterate how amazing this journey has been so far. I’ve been working on this project for over two years now, and it’s been nothing short of all consuming, in the best way possible. Craft beer is now an integral part of my life – and I feel honored to have been welcomed into the craft beer community with full pints and warm hand shakes. Throughout my trips to breweries and in the promotion of this book I’ve met some of the kindest, most interesting people I can imagine working with. This industry is really communal at its roots, so what better for me to give back than to showcase those responsible for not only the way California beer tastes, but also how those in this industry conduct themselves: through innovation and a with a willingness to help others. With that I say to you – help me help them. Let’s tell their stories and celebrate the men and women responsible for beautiful, yummy craft beer.

Donate today.

Cheers to you all,Nick

We Have a Cover! And More Events!

Hello Craft Beer Fans,
Wanted to share a bunch of very exciting news with you guys about the California BrewMasters project. First off, I’m excited to share that we have just crossed the 100 backers mark! I want to thank everyone who has donated so far for all their support, you’re not only supporting this project but the hard working brewers that bring tasty beers to all. We still have a long way to go though, we need to raise over $18,000 in the next 22 days! I’d again encourage everyone to get the word out. To those yet to donate, the time is now! Get your hands on some great rewards and help tell the stories of Golden State brewers. Donate Today!
Another exciting piece of news, we have a book cover! It features Ken Grossman, founder of Sierra Nevada, and one of the founding fathers of the craft beer movement. We feel that this choice as a cover image is emblematic to what this book has to offer, great portraiture and interviews that come together to tell the story of California craft beer. Sierra tells its story through its award winning and delicious beer, and we hope to tell it in our own way; through those that brew it. What do you think?
CABM_Cover_web
Lastly, we’re doing a whirlwind tour of events throughout Southern California, most in San Diego. We hope that you can make it out to at least one of these, and please feel free to come to as many as you’d like. These events are very important money makers for the Kickstarter (portions of the proceeds will go towards the Kickstarter), so bring as many friends as you’d like and come thirsty!
Feb 25st: The Side Door, Corona del Mar, 6-10pmCome join us on the beautiful outdoor patio at the Side Door in Corona del Mar for beers, appetizers, portraits, and more! Meet the author, learn about the project, and check out some of the great brewer portraits. Appetizers will be available for guests enjoyment. A portion of all sales will go to the California BrewMasters Kickstarter page, and laptops will be on hand for additional donations. Come thirsty! Event is open to the public, RSVP via Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/1405994489656326/
Mar 4th: Toronado, San Diego, 6-10pm
If you’ve never been to San Diego’s legendary Toronado you are certainly missing out on something wonderful. Join us for prints and pints! We’ll be drinking some delicious beers, including some from Alpine (yum yum!) to raise money for the Kickstarter.
Mar 5th: Urge GastroPub, San Diego, 6-Close
Funny enough Urge Gastropub was one of the first beer bars in San Diego I ever stepped foot in. A great space with even better people, I can’t wait to share a beer with you here. Prints on the walls, beers in our hands. Delicious menu of food as well so be sure to come thirsty and hungry!

Mar 6th: Tiger! Tiger!, San Diego, 6-Close
Tiger! Tiger! has been a staple craft-friendly beer bar for years now. It’s an honor to be welcomed into Tiger, Tiger and to have my prints grace their walls for a night. $1 for every California Beer sold will go towards the Kickstarter, so definitely join us with an eye on drinking local, delicious beers.

Mar 8th, Anthill Pub, Irvine, 6-Close
Very excited about this event, Anthill Pub is one of my favorite OC pubs, with affordable prices and an ever changing tap list. This event is particularly important because it’s also the day Anthill will be tapping their keg of Pliny the Younger! I know everyone’s excited about that (limited ticket sales for Pliny available at Anthill Pub), so come by to try out some awesome Russian River beers while supporting a great cause.

Mar 13th, AleSmith Brewery, San Diego, 5-8pm
To round off our list of events we’re going big. AleSmith big! Definitely one of my favorite San Diego breweries, we invite everyone to join us for one last event with brewers on hand from around San Diego. There will be some specialty beers on draught and a food truck as well. Prints on the walls and beer in your hand, what’s not to love? Hope to see everyone there!

Thank you for reading through this email, and thanks for your support! Together we can bring this book to life and celebrate the stories of the men and women responsible for great California beer. Donate Today! Cheers!

New Events to Check Out

Hey guys – we’re 10 days into our Kickstarter and we’re nearing the 20% mark with close to $4,500 raised so far! Thanks so everyone that’s gotten us this far. We have some great events that have both just been nailed down. I want to invite everyone reading this to both of them!

A portion of the proceeds will be going to our Kickstarter campaign, so be sure to drink your fill! Should be a great time and I’m looking forward to enjoying this party with all my Pomona and IE brethren.

The next event will be at the Side Door in Corona del Mar on Tuesday, Feb. 25th, from 6pm-10pm. This is going to take place on their beautiful outdoor back patio, we’ll be showing portraits on a projector, free appetizers for all and plenty of delicious beer. Book Progress & Promotion

In other news, we’re getting some great promotion for the book. We have several blog posts going out across craft beer media. While this book is based in California, I used to live in Washington, DC. I was very excited to do an interview with ExposedDC, a great photography blog in Washington. Check out the interview I did with them here:

http://exposeddc.com/2014/02/06/exposed-interview-nick-gingold/

I’ll be sure to share other media and promotion with you guys so you can follow the progress.

We also had an awesome release party last Saturday at City Beer Store in San Francisco. We had an awesome turn out! The prints of brewer portraits will be up at City Beer until the end of March, so be sure to stop by if you’re in the city and check them out for yourself. Here are some pictures from the party.

New Ad Campaign for the CBM Project

NGingold_AleSmith_CABrewMasters

This book is going to tell you a lot about these brewers… you’re going to get to meet them on a very personal level. That’s why we’re bringing you in close, VERY close, so you can get face to face. We thought we’d get that first awkward meeting out of the way. So, what is Peter Zien, head brewer at AleSmith up to? Or Tyler King, brewmaster at Orange County’s own The Bruery? Find out by helping us make this book hit the shelves. Go to our Kickstarter at:

Hello California Craft Beer Fans!
The big day has finally arrived, the California BrewMasters Kickstarter campaign has officially launched! Check it out at the link below:View the Kickstarter HERE
Once again, the California BrewMasters project is a collection of interviews and portraits with some of the Golden State’s best brewers, over 45 in total up and down the state. We hope to bring all of this content directly to you in the form of a beautiful coffee table book perfect for any craft beer enthusiast, but we need your help to do it! We need to raise $25,000 in the next 45 days. If this goes successfully, this book will be out by June for you to get your hands on. Hurray! However, if we fall short of our goal, this book will not happen! Womp womp…
To sweeten the deal, we have some great rewards for donors large and small to show our appreciation for your backing. Check them out on our Kickstarter page, but you can get anything from a custom stainless steel key chain, t-shirts, posters, even a custom made beer growler specifically made for this campaign. We know that the main reason you’d be backing this project is to get your hands on a copy of this book, so on Kickstarter you can pre-order the California BrewMasters coffee table book for $5 off the retail price. We’re also offering photographic prints of the brewers signed by the photographer, and if you’re feeling really really generous, you and your friends will be treated to a private brewery tour and tasting with a brewmaster from the book. How awesome is that??
One of the best ways YOU can help, besides your donation, is to help spread the word. We want to reach as many craft beer nerds as possible, and we can’t do it alone! So follow us on TwitterFacebook, and Instagram to let your friends know about this project, and encourage them to donate.
Lastly, we have a number of awesome Kickstarter parties planned throughout California to help raise money for the book. If you’re in San Francisco today, come visit City Beer Store from 3-10pm. We’ll have prints on the walls and beer flowing! Stop by and say hi!
We really can’t thank you enough for your support in turning this project, two years in the making, into a beautiful hardcover coffee table book for everyone to enjoy. Remember, visit Kickstarter page and donate today!
Cheers,
Nick
